National Trust for Historic Preservation Awards DCCPF a Preservation Grant from Jeffris Heartland Fund
Grant Will Go Toward Creation of An Historic Structure Report for the Davis County Courthouse

Bloomfield, IA (March, 2010)—Davis County Courthouse Preservation Fund has been awarded a $35,000.00 grant by the Midwest Office of the National Trust for Historic Preservation from the Jeffris Heartland Fund. The seed money is a matching grant for creation of an Historic Structure Report for the Davis County Courthouse.
An Historic Structure Report is required to identify and prioritize the needs of the building and provide direction for the preservation and ongoing maintenance of the courthouse.
“Funding made possible by the Jeffris Family Foundation for the Jeffris Heartland Fund will help towns across the Midwest preserve the historic places that have anchored their communities for generations,” said Richard Moe, president of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. “At a time when the national economy is experiencing profound challenges, funding from sources like the Jeffris Family Foundation is especially critical to ensure that the historic fabric of our smaller towns is not lost forever.”
For over ten years, the Jeffris Family Foundation has served as a catalyst to community support for historic preservation by making capital challenge grants to community-based projects in Wisconsin. In 2008, the Jeffris Heartland Fund was established to expand its scope to the entire Midwest, including the states of Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio and Wisconsin. Grants are awarded to nonprofit groups and public agencies, with priority going to projects in smaller cities and towns where funding sources are typically more limited.
About Davis County Courthouse Preservation Fund
The Davis County Courthouse Preservation Fund (www.daviscountycourthouse.com) is a not-for-profit organization formed to raise funds and assist the county Board of Supervisors in the planning and implementation of projects consistent with historic preservation and restoration of the Davis County Courthouse building and grounds. Since its founding in 2005, the DCCPF has been responsible for obtaining $375,000 in grants and state tax credits to help fund rehabilitation of the Davis County Courthouse.
