STATE HISTORicAL SOCIETY OF IOWA AWARDS $87,800 HISTORIC RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT GRANT TO DAVIS COUNTY COURTHOUSE PRESERVATION FUND FOR WINDOW RESTORATION

The Davis County Courthouse Preservation Fund (www.daviscountycourthouse.com) and the Davis County Board of Supervisors are pleased to announce an $87,800 Grant from the Iowa State Historical Society for restoration of the windows on the east and north courthouse façades. The grant is a REAP/Historical Resources Development Program (HRDP) grant. 79 eligible applications were received in this round, requesting a total of $2,042,887. The Historical Society was able to fund 31 projects.
Following the June 2009 hailstorm, windows on the west and south side of the courthouse were restored. This fiscal 2011 grant will enable the Supervisors to restore windows on the north and east side of the building. The cash match required one dollar of cash to match every two dollars of grant money requested. The Board of Supervisors supplied the required cash match of $43,650.
The 2011 grant includes $4,000 to create a clearinghouse and catalog for historical items gathered from the courthouse attic as well as other repositories. This part of the project requires $2,000 worth of volunteer hours to complete. The clearinghouse will provide invaluable information for the Historic Structure Report for the courthouse, which is due to be completed within the year.

Since its founding in 2005, the DCCPF has obtained $463,000 in historic preservation grants and state tax credits to help fund rehabilitation of the Davis County Courthouse.
